Big news from Mellow Mood: the Italian reggae band has just celebrated their 20th anniversary and released their seventh album, entitled 7, which came out last April and was taken on tour throughout Europe during the summer. But the band is already set to announce new music. The single Play No Banger was supposed to be the first track off the album, but its release was postponed out of respect for the recent passing of Naâman, good friend of Mellow Mood and French reggae star who had participated in the song. Now Play No Banger becomes the lead single for a deluxe version of 7, coming this fall, adding three previously unreleased tracks initially intended for the album and enriched by important international collaborations. Play No Banger is a song with a poignant and expansive melody, revolving around an instrumental with roots sounds typical of Jamaica in the early 1980s. The lyrics reflect on how reggae music is often overlooked because it is considered outdated and far removed from more contemporary trends such as trap or reggaeton, ignoring its profound spiritual, revolutionary, and liberating power. With this single, Mellow Mood reaffirm their loyalty to the intrinsic message of reggae and their desire to keep alive the link with its roots. As with their recently released album, the band has sought a more analog and vintage sound, with the members directly involved in the studio recordings. Once again, Paolo Baldini is at their side for mixing and production, while Nick Manasseh is responsible for mastering. Play No Banger will be released on October 10, 2025, on La Tempesta Dub and distributed by Believe Music Italia.
