Generic Animal

Generic Animal è il progetto di Luca Galizia (classe 1995), musicista e illustratore che vive a Milano e proviene dalla provincia di Varese. Suona diversi strumenti, disegna, scrive con la chitarra e con GarageBand. Arriva dall’hardcore e dall’emo, come dimostra il suo primo progetto Leute, e il nome Generic Animal nasce da un suo disegno di un animaletto senza sesso né specie.

Il suo percorso solista comincia nel novembre 2017 con il singolo “Broncio”, seguito a gennaio 2018 dall’album d’esordio “Generic Animal”, pubblicato da La Tempesta Dischi e prodotto da Marco Giudici, con testi di Jacopo Lietti. Un disco che attraversa l’hip-hop e l’emo midwest con sfumature dal gusto quasi medievale, accolto con entusiasmo da pubblico e critica, e seguito da un lungo tour di oltre ottanta date in tutta Italia.

A luglio dello stesso anno pubblica i singoli “Aeroplani” (prodotto da RIVA) e “Gattino”, i primi con testi propri, che anticipano il secondo album “Emoranger” (La Tempesta / Bomba Dischi, 2019), prodotto da Zollo. Il disco mostra un’impronta più trap ed elettronica, ma conserva la scrittura vulnerabile e diretta che diventa la cifra distintiva del progetto.

Parallelamente, Luca collabora con diversi protagonisti della scena hip-hop e trap italiana: Ketama126 (nell’album Rehab e nel brano Babe), Pretty Solero, Mecna (Un drink o due, Non dormo mai) e Massimo Pericolo (Sabbie d’oro). Nel 2019 accompagna Rkomi nel suo tour estivo come chitarrista e voce addizionale.

Nel 2020 torna a lavorare con l’amico e produttore Fight Pausa (72-Hour Post Fight, Leute) per il terzo album “Presto”, pubblicato da La Tempesta Dischi in licenza Island Records, con il sostegno del MiBACT e di SIAE nell’ambito del programma Per Chi Crea. Il disco unisce trap e math rock, emo e soul, mostrando la sua visione ibrida e sperimentale.

Nel 2021 Generic Animal è ospite di Colors Studios, uno dei format musicali più seguiti al mondo (tra gli italiani, solo lui e Nitro). L’anno successivo pubblica “Benevolent” (La Tempesta, 2022), ancora con Fight Pausa, un lavoro che si allontana dai linguaggi trap e rap per avvicinarsi a un suono più rock, post-rock e underground, oscillando tra pieni e vuoti, infanzia e maturità.

Nel 2023 esce l’EP “Mondo Rosso”, che consolida la sua identità di autore visionario e trasversale.
Nel 2024 arriva “Il canto dell’asino”, album prodotto con Yakamoto Kotzuga: un disco di passaggio e trasformazione, dove l’elettronica si fonde con un senso di fragilità e spiritualità laica, accolto come una delle prove più intense e consapevoli della sua carriera.

Nel 2025, dopo un anno di concerti e nuove collaborazioni, Generic Animal apre un nuovo capitolo pubblicando tre singoli: “La Lingua”, “FA;FO” e “Serpentine”.
Brani che nascono da un dialogo creativo che intreccia la lunga intesa con Fight Pausa e una nuova collaborazione con Devin Yü (frontman dei Delta Sleep), con cui Luca ha condiviso idee, scambiarsi file e costruire arrangiamenti tra Milano, Roma e il lago di Como. Piccoli mondi autonomi, ciascuno con una propria logica emotiva e sonora, tra chitarre baritone, glitch, toni acidi, melodie sfalsate, ballate distorte e una scrittura sempre più personale e inclassificabile.

Con questi tre singoli, Generic Animal conferma ancora una volta la sua natura di artista in continua trasformazione: una delle voci più originali, imprevedibili e radicalmente libere della musica italiana contemporanea.

Generic Animal is the project of Luca Galizia (born in 1995), a musician and illustrator based in Milan and originally from the province of Varese. He plays several instruments, draws, and writes songs using his guitar and GarageBand. Coming from the Italian hardcore and emo scene — as shown by his early band Leute — he took his stage name from a drawing he made of a small creature with no gender or species: a “generic animal.”

His solo career began in November 2017 with the single “Broncio”, followed in January 2018 by his self-titled debut album “Generic Animal”, released by La Tempesta Dischi and produced by Marco Giudici, with lyrics by Jacopo Lietti. The record blends hip-hop, midwest emo and a medieval flavor, earning strong critical acclaim and leading to a tour of more than eighty shows across Italy.

Later that same year, he released “Aeroplani” (produced by RIVA) and “Gattino”, two singles featuring his own lyrics, which paved the way for his second album “Emoranger” (La Tempesta / Bomba Dischi, 2019), produced by Zollo. The album introduced a more trap-infused and electronic sound, while keeping the emotional and vulnerable writing that defines his style.

At the same time, Luca started collaborating with several key figures of the Italian hip-hop and trap scene: Ketama126 (on Rehab and Babe), Pretty Solero, Mecna (Un drink o due, Non dormo mai), and Massimo Pericolo (Sabbie d’oro). In 2019 he joined Rkomi’s summer tour as guitarist and backing vocalist.

In 2020 he reunited with long-time friend and producer Fight Pausa (72-Hour Post Fight, Leute) for his third album “Presto”, released by La Tempesta Dischi in license with Island Records, supported by MiBACT and SIAE through the Per Chi Crea program. The album merges trap, math rock, emo and soul, marking a new step in his experimental evolution.

In 2021 Generic Animal appeared on Colors Studios, one of the world’s most respected live performance platforms — among the very few Italian artists ever invited. The following year he released “Benevolent” (La Tempesta, 2022), once again with Fight Pausa, moving away from trap and rap toward a sound closer to rock, post-rock and underground pop, exploring the tension between youth and adulthood, dreams and nightmares.

In 2023 he returned with the EP “Mondo Rosso”, confirming his position as one of Italy’s most visionary and unclassifiable voices.
In 2024 he released “Il canto dell’asino”, co-produced with Yakamoto Kotzuga, an introspective and spiritual record where electronics meet fragility — one of his most accomplished works to date.

In 2025, after a year of shows and new collaborations, Generic Animal opens a new chapter with the release of three singles: “La Lingua”, “FA;FO” and “Serpentine.”
These tracks emerge from a creative exchange that weaves together his long-standing partnership with Fight Pausa and a new collaboration with Devin Yü (frontman of Delta Sleep). Working between Milan, Rome and Lake Como — often trading ideas and files from their respective desks — they shaped three self-contained worlds, each with its own emotional and sonic logic: baritone guitars, glitch textures, acid basslines, skewed melodies, distorted ballads and an increasingly personal, unclassifiable writing style.

With these three singles, Generic Animal once again affirms himself as one of the most original, unpredictable and radically free voices in contemporary Italian music.
