Mimosa Campironi è musicista, compositrice e attrice.
Mimosa Campironi is a musician, composer and actress. Her artistic research begins at the point where music and theatre cease to be separate languages: sound becomes gesture, the body becomes an instrument, and presence itself becomes part of the composition.
She studied piano at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan and acting at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome. From the very beginning, she has developed a multidisciplinary practice spanning music, performance and writing, combining her work as a performer with the creation of pieces in which sound takes on a dramaturgical role.
As a singer-songwriter, she released the albums “La Terza Guerra” (2015) and “Hurrah” (2018, La Tempesta Dischi). In 2016, her song “Fame d’aria” won both the Critics’ Award and the SIAE Award for Best Music at Musicultura. “La Terza Guerra” also earned her a nomination at the MTV Awards as Best New Generation Artist; that same year, she received the Oscar dei Giovani at Rome’s Capitoline Hill in recognition of her work across acting and music.
Her work in theatre has been deeply shaped by Shakespeare. She played Juliet in “Romeo and Juliet”, directed by Gigi Proietti at the Globe Theatre in Rome, also collaborating with Proietti on the composition of the production’s musical theme. She later wrote the original songs for “Twelfth Night”.
Cinema is another thread running through her artistic career. Her film work includes Paolo Franchi’s “Nessuna qualità agli eroi” and Alberto Caviglia’s “Pecore in erba”, presented respectively at the 64th and 72nd Venice International Film Festival.
As an author and composer, she explores the territory between musical theatre, the spoken word and new technologies. In 2019, “Trashmedy”, for which she created the concept, libretto and sound design, had its world premiere at the Venice Biennale Musica. In 2020, she wrote the text and music for “Madame Tosca”, a work for narrator and piano commissioned by the Macerata Opera Festival in collaboration with Casa Musicale Sonzogno and performed by Laura Morante.
She also wrote and directed “Family Game”, selected for the Italian and American Playwrights Project 2020/22 and produced by Teatro Metastasio di Prato and 369gradi. The work was developed as a virtual-reality theatrical experience and later became the subject of research into accessibility conducted in collaboration with IULM University.
In recent years, she created the sound dramaturgy for “La Storia”, based on Elsa Morante’s novel and directed by Fausto Cabra, and joined the Italian tour of “Brokeback Mountain – A Play with Music”, directed by Giancarlo Nicoletti, as both actress and musician, playing Alma and performing harmonica and guitar with the live band. In 2026, she also brought “Sbandate (Descarríadas)” to the stage, a project where concert, memory and the female body come together.
With “REAL LIFE”, her new work for La Tempesta Dischi, Mimosa Campironi places her instrumental research at the centre of her practice. Prepared piano, accordion and mechanical organ shape a music born in the present, in constant dialogue with the body, the space and the presences inhabiting it. “REAL LIFE” represents a point of synthesis in her artistic journey: a place where composition, theatre and real life ultimately become part of the same gesture.
