Not Moving

I Not Moving nascono a Piacenza nel 1981, diventando presto una delle band più rappresentative e di culto della scena rock indipendente italiana. Il nome viene preso da un brano dei DNA incluso nella compilation No New York, manifesto del punk newyorkese. Fin dagli inizi il gruppo mescola garage, punk, psichedelia, blues e rock’n’roll, con una forte impronta visiva e la voce femminile di Rita “Lilith” Oberti, che rende la band unica nel panorama italiano dell’epoca.

La formazione originaria comprende Antonio “Tony Face” Bacciocchi (batteria), Dany Dallagiovanna (basso) e Paolo Molinari (chitarra), presto affiancati da Lilith alla voce e Mariella “Severine” Rocchetta alle tastiere. Nel 1983 si unisce Domenico “Dome La Muerte” Petrosino, già chitarrista dei Cheetah Chrome Motherfuckers: il suo arrivo segna una svolta decisiva nello stile del gruppo, più vicino al garage-punk americano e alle atmosfere lisergiche.

Tra il 1983 e il 1989 i Not Moving pubblicano una serie di dischi entrati nella storia dell’underground: Movin’ Over (1983), Black’n’Wild (1985), Sinnermen (1986) e Flash on You (1988). In quegli anni la band suona centinaia di concerti in Italia e all’estero, apre per i Clash al Palalido di Milano, divide il palco con Johnny Thunders e partecipa a eventi internazionali insieme a CCCP e Litfiba. Il loro sound diretto e selvaggio, insieme a un immaginario che mescola ribellione punk, visioni psichedeliche e suggestioni dalle culture native, li rende un gruppo unico e leggendario.

Dopo lo scioglimento dei primi anni ’90, nel 2005 la band torna con il cofanetto Live in the 80’s e una breve reunion culminata con l’apertura ai Damned e a Iggy and the Stooges al Rock In Idro. Nel 2019 nasce Not Moving LTD, con Lilith, Dome La Muerte e Tony Face affiancati da Iride Volpi, e nel 2022 viene pubblicato l’album Love Beat. Nel 2023 ricevono il Premio Ciampi alla carriera, a riconoscimento del loro contributo alla musica italiana indipendente.

Il 2025 segna la pubblicazione di quello che è stato annunciato come l’ultimo album del gruppo, That’s All Folks! (La Tempesta Dischi / LaPop, 17 ottobre 2025). Concepito come un ritorno alle origini, il disco nasce come omaggio al blues, punto di partenza della band, ma si muove anche tra punk, psichedelia, Gun Club, Cramps, Rolling Stones e Bo Diddley. In scaletta trovano spazio brani inediti accanto a reinterpretazioni di classici (Soul of a Man di Blind Willie Johnson, The Devil with the Blue Dress On) e si chiude con una nuova versione di “Not Moving” dei DNA, il pezzo che nel 1981 diede loro il nome. Registrato tra Elfo Studio e Ale Sportelli Recording Studio e mixato da Matteo Bordin, l’album porta in copertina il logo originale della band, disegnato nel 1986 da Eddie King “Left-Hand Luke” (già autore delle grafiche per i Clash e i Madness).

Dopo oltre quarant’anni di storia, i Not Moving salutano con un lavoro che è allo stesso tempo un testamento artistico e un omaggio alle proprie radici, confermando la vitalità e la coerenza di una band che ha attraversato epoche e generazioni restando fedele al proprio spirito rock’n’roll.

Not Moving formed in Piacenza in 1981, quickly becoming one of the most iconic and cult bands in the Italian independent rock scene. Their name was taken from a song by DNA featured on the compilation No New York, a manifesto of the New York punk scene. From the very beginning, the band blended garage, punk, psychedelia, blues, and rock’n’roll, with a strong visual identity and the distinctive female voice of Rita “Lilith” Oberti, which made them stand out in the Italian landscape of the time.

The original lineup featured Antonio “Tony Face” Bacciocchi (drums), Dany Dallagiovanna (bass), and Paolo Molinari (guitar), soon joined by Lilith on vocals and Mariella “Severine” Rocchetta on keyboards. In 1983, Domenico “Dome La Muerte” Petrosino, former guitarist of hardcore legends Cheetah Chrome Motherfuckers, entered the band, giving a decisive turn to their sound, which moved closer to American garage-punk and psychedelic atmospheres.

Between 1983 and 1989, Not Moving released several records that became milestones in Italy’s underground scene: Movin’ Over (1983), Black’n’Wild (1985), Sinnermen (1986), and Flash on You (1988). During this period, the band played hundreds of gigs across Italy and abroad, opened for the Clash at the Palalido in Milan, shared the stage with Johnny Thunders, and performed alongside CCCP and Litfiba in Berlin. Their raw, wild sound and imagery – a mix of punk rebellion, psychedelic visions, and references to Native American cultures – made them a unique and legendary act.

After disbanding in the early ’90s, the group returned in 2005 with the box set Live in the 80’s and a brief reunion that included opening slots for The Damned and Iggy and the Stooges at Rock In Idro. In 2019, Not Moving LTD was born, featuring Lilith, Dome La Muerte, and Tony Face joined by Iride Volpi, leading to the release of Love Beat in 2022. In 2023, the band received the Ciampi Career Award, acknowledging their contribution to Italian independent music.

In 2025, the band released what has been announced as their final album, That’s All Folks! (La Tempesta Dischi / LaPop, October 17, 2025). Conceived as a return to their roots, the record is a tribute to the blues – the foundation of the band’s sound – while also drawing on punk, psychedelia, the Gun Club, Cramps, Rolling Stones, and Bo Diddley. The tracklist features both new songs and reinterpretations of classics (Soul of a Man by Blind Willie Johnson, The Devil with the Blue Dress On), and closes with a new version of “Not Moving” by DNA, the song from No New York that gave the band its name. Recorded at Elfo Studio and Ale Sportelli Recording Studio, mixed by Matteo Bordin, the album also revives the band’s original logo, created in 1986 by Eddie King “Left-Hand Luke” (graphic designer for the Clash and Madness).

After more than forty years of history, Not Moving bid farewell with an album that stands as both an artistic testament and a tribute to their roots, confirming the vitality and integrity of a band that has crossed decades and generations while staying true to their rock’n’roll spirit.
