The Sleeping Tree

Al basso con i Mellow Mood dal 2005, The Sleeping Tree (vero nome Giulio Frausin) è anche uno dei curatori di La Tempesta Dub, la sezione reggae/dub dell’etichetta indipendente La Tempesta Dischi.

Dopo aver pubblicato l’album d’esordio Leaves and Roots (2008) per la net-label tedesca 12rec, seguito dall’EP autoprodotto Stories (2011), firma con l’etichetta indipendente italiana La Tempesta International. Nel 2013 esce l’album Painless, seguito da Colours, EP che include remix di diversi artisti italiani tra elettronica e avanguardia.

Dopo una lunga pausa, durante la quale si concentra sulle attività con la band e l’etichetta, Frausin collabora con il produttore Paolo Baldini (La Tempesta Dischi, Pressure Sounds) per registrare il nuovo album Timeline, composto da brani scritti nell’arco dei dieci anni precedenti e pubblicato all’inizio del 2022.

Quattro anni dopo, The Sleeping Tree torna con una rilettura spoglia e profondamente rinnovata di Love Is An Eternal Lie, realizzata per il film Un anno di scuola, secondo lungometraggio di Laura Samani. Pubblicato originariamente nel 2008 all’interno di Leaves & Roots, il brano viene qui ridotto al suo nucleo compositivo essenziale, su richiesta della regista. La voce e il fingerpicking di Frausin abbandonano l’urgenza giovanile per abbracciare un minimalismo più maturo, misurato e consapevole.

On bass with Mellow Mood since 2005, The Sleeping Tree (real name Giulio Frausin) is also one of the curators of La Tempesta Dub, the reggae/dub branch of the independent label La Tempesta Dischi.

After releasing his debut album Leaves and Roots (2008) on German net-label 12rec, followed by the self-released EP Stories (2011), he signed with the Italian independent label La Tempesta International. His album Painless came out in 2013, followed by Colours, an EP featuring remixes by several Italian electronic and avant-garde artists.

After a long hiatus, during which he focused on his band and label activities, Frausin teamed up with producer Paolo Baldini (La Tempesta Dischi, Pressure Sounds) to record a new full-length album entitled Timeline, featuring songs written over the previous ten years and released in early 2022.

Four years later, The Sleeping Tree returns with a stripped-down and deeply renewed reinterpretation of Love Is An Eternal Lie, created for the film Un anno di scuola, the second feature by Laura Samani. Originally released in 2008 as part of his debut Leaves & Roots, the song is here reduced to its most essential compositional core, as requested by the director. Frausin’s voice and fingerpicking shed their youthful urgency, embracing a more mature, restrained, and conscious minimalism.
